I was just reading about the bills for the infringement thing and had an idea. If it is possible I would like to see a feature that lets you know when an entity is only tracking the data being downloaded and not sending out any pertinent data associated with the download. With enough time and effort (and LOTS of coffee) I am sure that weeding these entities out could be done. However, not many people are savy enough for such an endeavor. If bit-torrent had a feature to alert the user to an address that is not contributing to the collection of data for the specified file being downloaded, users would be able to stop walking on eggshells about which torrent they choose to download. This would probably raise the amount of bandwidth, RAM, and CPU used by BT, but I believe that to be a small sacrifice to keep my business to myself.

At this time, in this wonderful age of technology, freedom of information is about to take its most massive hit yet. We should, as a society, start to prepare for a day when freedom of information is considered a myth. That day, in my eyes, is not very far off. It doesn't matter what happens, though, because there is no way that I will allow anyone or anything to keep me from doing what I want to do once I've decided to do it :-P

That is why I think BT should have maybe a downloadable extension that scans all connections coming in and out of a users PC for any entity that is neither downloading nor uploading data pertinent to the file being downloaded by a user. Such entities would be very easy for a program to find and block.

I realize that having this kind of feature/app/extension will not necessarily keep people from getting into trouble for infringement, because even though they are blocked they were connected to you and hence have your IPA. However, I am sure that as tech evolves, so, too, will programs such as this.

Keep up the awesome work :D

Except that the factors you're using aren't good ones to use to determine if a given peer is hostile.

Hiding from the spies in swarms is basically impossible, because as our blocking of them evolves, so to does their hiding.

But so too does our abilities to evade. For every thing new they come up with people come up with dozens of ways to do something about it. Evolution is awesome. Anything is possible.
