Error "Torrent is not valid bencoding"
Posted 26 June 2012 - 06:26 AM
Is there something wrong with the current update (7.6.1)? If so, how do I go back to the old one, because this thing is now useless to me until I can figure out how to fix it.

Changing the extension doesn't magically change the file to a torrent. It still won't open in BitTorrent.
So maybe you have to save the file in your PC an then change the extensions.

Oddly enough, a website I was not able to open yesterday (it was having server issues) gives me torrents that work just fine. It seems to be just one of the two websites I go to has "bad torrents". Are the file extensions supposed to be .torrent?

The specific page I linked is the torrent page for a linux distribution. Clicking one of the links in the main content section (not the sidebar) would have shown you (and me) where the problem was.
I have no idea what that link was you sent me to, but I don't have linux and couldn't figure out how to get torrents from it.
For user-friendlyness sake, yes. But it's not 100% required as long as the encoding is correct.

Guess I will just have to try to find more, though so far all I can find are crap. If I cannot get past this problem, are there any site suggestions you can give me?

I guess the update was to ensure you only get good (nicely bencoded) torrents, but these are maybe not that many...?
Shitty update, whats the worth of a program, that is more secure, but not usable anymore?
Couldnt you have at least asked, if we wanted to take the risk and open a torrent with a not valid bencoding instead of just forcing down
"more security" our throat. Program is behaving like our mamas now!

You're trying to feed BitTorrent links to the description pages rather than the torrents themselves, or the site you're using is trying to redirect based on a referrer check.
