  1. I just noticed that if there is a seeder listed for tracker.bttorrent.xyz, both it and the other tracker have status working and the other site can see the torrent.

If there is no seeder for tracker.bt.torrent.xyz, neither it  both it and the other tracjer have a blank for status, and the website can't see the torrent.

I also found out that WSS is a web socket, whatever that it. Now I need to find out why it suddenly appeared, and why it is blocking mosy of my torrents.

  2. As of two days ago, I have been having big problems, and have noticed two changes, which may or may not related.

The operational problem is that suddenly, only a small fraction of the torrents I am seeding, around 10%, are being recognized as seeding by the site I downloaded them from. This applies across multiple torrent sites.

The second issue, not necessarily a problem in an of itself, is that at the same time, when I check the Trackers pane on a torrent, I now see another entry.

    WSS://TRACKER.BTTORRENT.XYZ

If I delete the tracker, it immediately reappears.

It seems a reasonable supposition that whatever caused this new tracker entry to appear is also blocking most of the torrents I am seeding from being recognized by the torrent sites.

Unless someone can suggest a fix, I guess I either have to go back to an earlier version of Bittorrent software and keep it from updating, or switch to a different torrent programme. This would be a huge hassle so I hope someone can help.

  3. Thanks, but I should have mentioned that   already checked my antivirus apps and it is not on the lists of blocked apps. Alas, since I can now not see the app or exe via Windows, I am unable to add it to the Allowed Apps list.

I guess it is time to switch torrent clients.

BTW, Bittorrent still appears on the list when I bring up the list of apps using Windows Remove Software feature.

  4. One more bit of strangeness -- I remembered that you can right click and run exe files as an Administrator. When I tried another download to the same location I was able to download it to before, it wouldn't let me, but I was able to find another location and download it. When I right clicked -- I am a leftie when I use my mouse -- and told it to Run as an Administrator, it told me I didn't have permission and then the downloaded exe file disappeared.

It occurred to me that normally when I have this Administrator prompt, it is for a situation such as trying to download a new version of a file that is open in an application like Word. That would be why I can't download the exe file to somewhere I have already downloaded to and opened -- presumably it is already there and active, though it doesn't show up in Task Manager.

    Weirder and weirder!

I am now going to try a reboot of my laptop to see what happens.

  5. I have been running Bittorent for many years on various PCs, but as of today I have a weird problem.

I noticed after the latest Bittorrent upgrade the other day I started getting asked to assume administrator privileges when I want to delete a torrent. That I can deal with, because the dialogue box offers that as an option, but now the application has become invisible, it seems.

By that I mean that by checking on a torrent website I can see that the Bittorent client is actually running on my PC, but associated process no longer appears in Windows Task Manager.

If I click on a torrent file itself  I get a message that I need an app to open it, but when I try to search for the Bittorent executable file cannot be found through the dialogue boxes.

I tried downloading the Bitoirrent installation executable to see what would happen. It told me I couldn't download it to my usual folder because I don't have permission. I was able to save it to another location, but when I double clicked on it, it suddenly vanished, and I got a message that it can't be found and that I may not have the appropriate permission to access the file.

By searching using Windows Explorer I found a number of instances of bitorrentie.exe, but they appear to be associated with past upgrades, In any case nothing happens when I click on them.

I have been using Bittorrent for many years, so I can only assume this is some kind of bug associated with the upgrade.

I have been using PCs since they were still called microcomputers, and have never seen the like before, so I hope someone can help me figure out what is going on. I know permissions problems can be gnarly to disentangle.

  6. Bittorrent is causing an odd problem, knocking out my internet connection (which includes my TV and land line) once every hour. The laptop, phone, and TV are all connected to a router and then to the Internet.

By elimination, I was able to narrow the cause down to my laptop, and then figured out a way to stop it happening by disconnecting that laptop from the internet for a few hours after I rebooted it. Then I would be fine until the next time I rebooted, when I would have to repeat the fix.

But a few days ago the 'disconnecting from the internet for a few hours' stopped working as a fix. I can make the problem happen by starting up Bittorrent, and stop it from happening by shutting down Bittorrent, so it is definitely caused by the application.

So at this point my choices are to stop using Bittorrent and start using a different torrent client, or figure out how to stop Bittorrent from causing the problem. Can anybody give me any advice? I would prefer to stick with Bittorent.

I should also mention that the hourly shutdown starts at a new seemingly arbitrary time each time I reboot, and then repeats exactly the same number of minutes past the hour every hour until I reboot, after it which it starts happening again at an arbitrary time and then repeats it again every hour at the new time.

I should also mention that your website reassured me I am using the latest version of Bittorrent.

My guess is that either Bittorrent or something associated with it is trying to senned so much data it overwhelms my (very fast) internet connection which momentarily shuts down, but that's just a guess.
