This would check your current settings, connect with a test share, display the results to the user, and make recommendations for changes to configuration. It would also determine whether router port forwarding would be helpful and make related recommendations. The difficulty with the current setup is that it's difficult to know exaclty where the problem exists when one client is unable to sync with another. Is it client A's operating system or their router? Is it client B's operating system or router? You can get an idea of what I'm after by looking at the diagnostic tools in YawCam and uTorrent.
