P2P Network Simulator For Bittorrent In Python

Hi,

I know that BitTorrent was first written in Python and I am curious how people behind BitTorrent tested it. I am working on another kind of P2P application using Python and I will need to test it. By testing I mean simulation of a P2P network. The only reasonable way to test it I've found so far is to use some P2P simulator, but most of them are not compatible with Python. Does anyone know how BitTorrent was tested and/or how could one test a P2P application written in Python?
