Security Of A Torrent Folder Location

I have a BitTorrent client built into my NAS. What I've seen is that the public share folder, which specifies where all torrents are uploaded/downloaded, is the only folder that is accessible by DLNA.

 

What I'd like to do is view my private family photos via DLNA. My question is, if I were to place all these photos (and even iTunes music library) into this public share folder, are they inaccessible to the outside? From what I understand, as long as I haven't taken steps to convert them to torrents, they can't be downloaded by others? Is there anything else I should be concerned about?
