Moving Directories, Files Lost?

I recently changed the directory settings and seem to have lost four fully completed films. I have searched my entire computer for the files but they have not turned up in the search. I do not consider this conclusive proof of the files having been deleted so I thought I would check here whether this is likely to have really happened. The four lost files in question were in the previous directory but now do not seem to exist anywhere. I have not seen them in the recycle bin.
