(MAC) Torrents not opening once downloaded.

Hi, Ive been using bittorrent for a few months now and everything was working fine until about two weeks ago when all of a sudden, after downloading the torrent, bittorrent just refuses to open. The pinwheel comes up which it rarely does normally and then after a few minutes it tells me bittorrent has been closed due to it being unresponsive. I really hope im not missing something really obvious. Im currently running leopard.
