License provided is a key code, not a btwkey file

So I paid for a year of uTorrent Web Pro and the servicer sent me a license key, as text. Gave me instructions, that do not match the screen. Only place I can find license is in settings for uTorrent and it wants a .btwkey file, which wasnt sent. Did I get scammed by a spoofed provider? If I did why did they send me anything.
