thunderevermore
So I've searched the forum with no luck.Running the "Network" portion of the setup guide yields a red X and an error message saying "Neither NAT-PMP nor uPnP is enabled". Checking my settings, they are indeed both disabled (read: not checked). I also have uPnP disabled in my router. I don't actually want these enabled. I have manually forwarded my manually set port in BitTorrent so I don't understand why it won't consider my settings. Does BitTorrent HAVE to run with one or both of these enabled? If so, why allow the options?
thunderevermore
As a note, I also tried enabling both in bittorrent as well as enabling uPnP (I could not find a setting for NAT-PMP) on my router, and that resulted in it telling me my port was not forwarded, despite the obvious. thunderevermore
Did I touch a nerve here or is there really no one that can help?
Harold Feit
It doesn't HAVE to run with those options enabled. It just improves the chances of getting incoming connections (and in turn, improving your own transfer speeds).
thunderevermore
Shouldn't it be able to determine whether or not my ports are forwarded without these settings enabled? Also, it seems that I am getting little to no incoming connections, and I seed generally only when I am also leeching (as I already have the connection). Harold Feit
Then your aversion to having UPnP enabled is causing you problems.http://bt.degreez.net/firewalled.html
thunderevermore
Does forwarding your port not alleviate this issue? I would also note that even with uPnP enabled the test determined that my port was not forwarded despite being forwarded on my router.
thunderevermore
So is port forwarding just complete pointless?
Harold Feit
The NAT-PMP/UPnP process is one way to do the port forwarding. The test may not work right depending on your situation.
