can't delete torrent lising whose files are missing (pink)

I deleted torrented files manually using the file directory (i.e. not using bittorrent). They now show up in the bittorrent listing with pink backgrounds so bittorrent knows the underlying files are missing. But when I try to delete them bittorrent crashes.
