Guest
Download the new version now!7.9 is an exciting release for the BitTorrent team. 7.9 is the first version to include a major change in the way that BitTorrent chooses peers in a swarm. Designed by our own Arvid Norberg, Canonical Peer Priority is a way to help peers connect to the swarm faster, as well as reduce the average hop length from you to any other peer in the swarm. When a bittorrent client joins a swarm, it needs a way to select which peers it connects to. If it chooses poorly, or if there are malicious actors in the swarm, the connections between clients are not well distributed through the swarm, leading to a large number of hops from node to node. That slows down the ability to each client to pass data on to the next. You can read a more detailed technical discussion of the issues here, along with graphs and figures that drive home how bad the worst case can be. You can read more about graph connectivity here. Other changes are include some UI elements and easier access to BitTorrent Bundles. Raze1991
What happened with Toolbar at 7.9? Stop Torrent button does not work! Play Torrent button does work to all early stopped torrents at old 7.8.2 version, but I can't stop any of current torrents! And there are no Pause Torrent button at Toolbar! Just compare old Toolbar and new one! New interface does not have any advantages - it's not multipurpose and not beautiful. P.S. I uninstall 7.9 and install 7.8.2, and all buttons work correctly. micycle
Pause button has gone and the new start button graphic is misleading. Setting an upload limit finally works though (previously, upload speed would go to 0KB/s regardless of limit set).
micycle
In the 'Up Speed' column, overhead data (send to seeders) is now counted, but this data is not counted in the 'Uploaded' column (rightly so). I've noticed that overhead data is also now included in the 'Peers' [detailed info plane] which is useful. I think that overhead data (to seeders) should be excluded from the 'Up Speed' column however.

omgjadom
Has this slowed anyone else's system down dramatically? Just opening the program is a task. I have 16gb ram and quad core btw so it's not the system. Edited April 8, 2014 by omgjadom
andy-drew
May I know why my BitTorrent 7.8.2 doesn't tell me there is an update (7.9)?
Harold Feit
Because we have to push new versions to the update system manually.
Fat_Frank
I've recently upgraded to BT 7.9.1 (build 30889) and have the following observations: 1. Speed (particularly upload) has improved marginally. 2. I'm seeing far more 'Not responding' errors than I had with previous version (7.2.1) 3. I use the label facility to store my torrents but now, it seems, that if I want to change a label two clicks are required, whereas it was only one before. Is there a (good) reason for that? vclaudiam
Am I the only one who's having problems with the downloads? I used to be able to download (the same file) at 200kbps, and after upgrading to this new version, it continues the download at 0.1kbps, going up to 10kbps, if I'm in any luck. What can I do? I've redownloaded the program, and it still isn't working.

orangeboy
It appears the Detailed Information (view toggled with F5 key) does not retain the last (or current) view for very long. I prefer to view the Peers connected to a torrent. After an undetermined amount of time, the view always reverts back to Files.
